FINAL ANNOUNCEMENT
The COVID-19 pandemic has created a worldwide crisis with many dimensions, including health, humanitarian, social and economic. As a consequence, many events worldwide have been affected by this crisis with DW2020 among them.
About one year ago, we were hopeful that we could hold the in-person event in Lisbon in September/2021. Now, about three months before the planned starting date, we still have many uncertainties such as international travel limitations, reopening and closing of some economy sectors, uneven vaccination levels around the world and new variants of concern spreading Covid-19 even more rapidly; all of which has had a great impact on our conference planning.
Thus, faced with this scenario, the Organising Committee of DW2020 has decided to close the Fourth International DAM WORLD Conference.
All Authors who submitted their Final Papers, but chose to present in the in-person event, will have the opportunity to publish their Papers in the Volume 2 of the Proceedings which will be published by September/2021.
The invited keynote lectures will be presented in the online Closing Session on the 30th/September/2021.
We would like to express our appreciation to all Authors for their valuable contribution and the Scientific Committee Members for their important role in the paper reviewing process. A special thanks to the Keynote Speakers who will deliver their lectures in the Closing Ceremony. Finally, we would like to express our recognition and gratitude to our Sponsors who supported DW2020 in such a difficult circumstances.
Organising DW2020 Webinar was a big challenge for us and, based on the participants endorsements, we are very pleased with the positive achievements.
I am sure that you will agree that our collective efforts yielded the best possible outcome for DW2020. This was only possible through everyone commitment of time and effort, which is especially notable given the extreme adverse situation we have been going through.
We deeply regret this abrupt change in plans, but ensuring the safety of all attendants has been our utmost priority.
The Fifth International DAM WORLD Conference will take place once this page in our history is finally turned over.
We cannot close this page without expressing our deepest sorrow for our beloved ones who did not survive Covid-19, we would like to extend a word of solidarity to the families and friends devastated by their loss.

In the meantime, we invite the dam engineering community to join us in the DAM WORLD Webinar which will take place in the original week planned for the Conference, 22-24th September/2020.
Authors will be presenting their papers online followed by Q&A.
Registration for the DAM WORLD Webinar is open.
WELCOME MESSAGE
The Fourth International DAM WORLD Conference is an international gathering of a prestigious series of conferences on Dam Engineering. This series of conferences started in 2012. The first event was held in Maceió, Brazil, following Lisbon, Portugal in 2015 and Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, in 2018.
Why Lisbon?
"If you’re dreaming about your next trip to Europe, come and discover Lisbon, a historical city full of stories to tell, where the sun shines 290 days a year and the temperature rarely drops below 15 ºC. A city where you feel safe wandering around day or night, where the cuisine is dedicated to creating over a thousand ways to cook the beloved bacalhau (salted cod), and where you’ll find hotels and restaurants to suit every taste, budget and requirement. Discover Lisbon, a city full of authenticity where old customs and ancient history intermix with cultural entertainment and hi-tech innovation. Lisbon is ageless, but it loves company, as you’ll find out if you meet someone and ask them to explain, with lots of gestures and repetition, where the best place is to listen to Fado. After all, Lisbon is famous for its hospitality and the family-like way it welcomes visitors."
The National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) will be hosting the Fourth International DAM WORLD Conference and I would like to send a friendly invitation to the international dam engineering community. The Conference aims to be a forum for disseminating the latest scientific and technical developments and for discussing the current problems, challenges and solutions faced by this important engineering sector.
The Fourth International DAM WORLD Conference will happen in two different time frames: the DAM WORD Webinar will take place in 2020 and the in-person Conference, hopefully, in 2021.
The Conference, in addition to technical sessions, will comprise Keynote Lectures from a team of experts, Pre-Conference One-Day Courses of great interest to professional practice and Special Sessions dedicated to topics of delegates special interest. Site Visits of technical and cultural interest will be organised. The Fourth International DAM WORLD Conference Organisation Team will make all efforts to promote a fruitful and enjoyable networking among delegates and make the DAM WORLD Conference an unforgettable experience.
Come and join the Fourth International DAM WORLD Conference!
